This project allows you to search about 100 fake books to find a jazz or popular song. Enter the title of the song or at least 4 characters from the title. This will return all results containing the string you type. Sometimes it will find composers' names, too.

If you can't find what you're looking for, you might try one of these sources.

Seventh String Fake Book Index (UK)	A great index somewhat similar to this one. Contains some books this index doesn't have (and skips a few that this index does have).
AllMusicMethods.com	A music book seller with a very nice index for searching the 200 or so fake books that they carry.
The Guitarguy's Golden Classics	Over 500 tunes with lyrics AND chord changes but no melody.
University of Washington Popular Song Database	Indexes the "arranged" song books in the popular song books at the University of Washington Music Library. Completely disjoint from this index. Covers none of the material this index covers and vice versa.

About this project

As an ameteur jazz pianist, I've spent my share of time thumbing through several fake books for some tune, finally finding it in the last book I searched. After a while, I photo copied the indices of several books and kept that handy. This page is the next step. I assembled the indices of all the books I could find and put them into a database. It's pretty plain, but that's how I like it.

There are over 27,000 song entries in the database, including lots of jazz as well as popular, Latin, classical, and country. If you find this useful or if you have any suggestions, requests, or errors to report, please send me mail.
